A Memorial Tribute to Debra Spunt- Co-Founding President of INACSL Debra L. Spunt, DNP, RN, FAAN, co-founded and served as the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning’s (INACSL) first president. She was an assistant professor and director of the clinical simulation laboratories at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. Debbie fought her battle with cancer and passed away on March 9, 2007. Debbie was nationally and internationally recognized for her knowledge, expertise, and leadership in clinical simulation, especially the use of advanced patient simulators through clinical case scenarios to educate nurses and other healthcare providers. She designed, administered, and managed the School of Nursing’s 28 clinical simulation laboratories. Due to her admirable leadership, the nursing student learning labs are considered the finest in the world. Debbie was a member of the American Nurses Association, American Academy of Nursing, Maryland Nurses Association, Maryland League for Nursing, National League for Nursing, and Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing. Debbie’s legacy and passion for simulation and nursing will be carried on through the many people and programs she contributed to, INACSL being one of them.
