In 2014 INACSL and NLN initiated HomeGrown Solutions to capture and house the incredible talent, ingenuity, and sharing spirit of the simulation community. Housed on NLN's SIRC, created by education professionals to address tricky issues in simulation, HomeGrown Simulation Solutions are comprised of self-made items, creative adaptations to existing items, simulation recipes, and ideas that add to the suspension of disbelief in simulation. Each item includes objectives for use, ideas to integrate it into the curriculum, and step-by-step instructions that provide a roadmap for replication.

The original idea for HomeGrown Solutions was first seen in 2007 at the Low Cost Solution podium presentation by Margaret (Meg) Meccariello at the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) conference. In 2008, the HomeGrown Simulator Contest began; winners were published in Clinical Simulation in Nursing, the official journal of the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL).

NLN and INACSL are proud to carry on the tradition Meg Meccariello started by offering the simulation community a place to share their innovative ideas. Applications are accepted throughout the year and reviewed twice annually (January and July).  Accepted HomeGrown Solutions are posted to the NLN SIRC site. Authors may also be asked to present at the INACSL Conference, which occurs annually each June. For more information on criteria for submission and to access past HomeGrown Solutions visit the NLN's SIRC site.
