President-Elect (1 vacancy)

Dr. Carman Turkelson, DNP, RN, CCRN, CHSE-A, is a Professor and Director of the Center for Simulation and Clinical Innovation at the University of Michigan-Flint. Dr. Turkelson earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice with a focus on interprofessional education (IPE) using simulation-based experiences (SBE) from the University of Michigan. She received her Master of Science in Nursing Education and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Michigan State University.

Dr. Turkelson's interest in the use of simulation began in 2008, and since that time, she has continued to cultivate her knowledge, skills, and expertise in this pedagogy. Dr. Turkelson has participated in several fellowships, including the NLN Leadership Development Program for Simulation Educators, the INACSL Research Fellowship, and the CAE Healthcare Simulation Fellowship. Her scholarship focuses on SBEs exploring learning, IPE, and patient safety. She and her colleagues have been the recipients of grant fundign supporting the development of innovative SBEs, have multiple peer reviewed publications, and have presented locally, nationally, and internationally.

Dr. Turkelson has served on the Board of Directors for INACSL and as an INACSL Research Fellow Mentor and facilitator for the Simulation Education Program. She was recently accepted into the National Academies of Practice as a Distinguished Fellow of the Nursing Academy and the Society for Simulation in Healthcare Academy 2025 cohorts.

Treasurer-Secretary (1 vacancy)

Dr. Alison H. Davis, PhD, RN, CNE, CHSE, is the Director of the MSN Nurse Educator Program and Associate Professor of Clinical Nursing at Louisiana State University Health New Orleans School of Nursing. From 2016 - 2022, she served as the Director of the Nursing Skills and Technology Center (NSTC) and was responsible for daily operations, including the simulation center. 

Dr. Davis earned her PhD from Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University, her MSN from Duke University, and her BSN from The Medical College of Georgia. She served as the Endowed Professor for the P.K. Scheerle Professorship in Nursing. Dr. Davis and colleagues developed high fidelity simulations addressing maternal mortality and morbidity factors in Louisiana, regional disasters in Louisiana, and simulated experiences for Louisiana sexual assault nurses. She has published in peer reviewed journals, presented at national and international conferences, and received grant funding in simulation. 

Dr. Davis is a member of the Sigma International Honor Society of Nursing, Society for Simulation in Healthcare, and Louisiana State Nurses Association. She served on INACSL's Webinar Committee where she worked on developing, organizing, and providing informative webinars to INACSL, where she collaborates with the Board of Directors to ensure the organization remains fiscally responoble and financially healthy.

Dr. Kellie Bryant, DNP, WHNP, CHSE, FSSH, FADLN, FAAN, currently leads as the Director of the Center for Innovation in Education Excellence at the National League for Nursing, where she applies over two decades of educational expertise, including 15 years dedicated to simulation in nursing. In her role, she spearheads the development of innovative products and services that enhance nursing education, focusing on simulation-based learning and partnerships to advance academic success. 

Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Bryant has contributed significantly to the field through scholarly publications and presentations. She has published over numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, with a focus on simulation operations, educational strategies, and diversity in simulation practices. Her notable works include contributions to "Clinical Simulations in Nursing Education" and the several simulation textbooks, emphasizing the integration of simulation to build competencies in both clinical and academic settings. 

Dr. Bryant has received several grats to support her simulation initiatives. She actively engages in leadership roles, including serving on the board of the Global Network of Simulation in Healthcare, Vice Chair for the Society for Simulation in Healthcare's DEI Committee, and as a board member of the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning. These postitions underscore her commitment to enhancing simulation education and fostering inclusivity in healthcare education. 

Dr. Tiffani Chidume, DNP, RN, CHSE-A, CHSOS, is an associate clinical professor and simulation center coordinator at the Auburn University College of Nursing. She has 23 years of combined experience in nursing education, critical care, and health information technology. Dr. Chidume has worked in healthcare simulation for over ten years and her expertise is in coordinating and designing simulations to meet learner needs. 

Dr. Chidume earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Master of Science in Nursing Informatics from Troy University, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing, also from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She is a content writer for the simulation information hub, Healthysimulation.com. Her research includes simulation methodology, virtual reality, and interprofessional education. She has several publications, presentations, and webinars related to nursing education and healthcare simulation. 

Dr. Chidume is active in many professional organizations including SSH, ASPE, and INACSL. Within INACSL, Dr. Chidume serves on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (IncluDE) committee, Awards committee, Debriefing Standards sub-committee, and was the past chair of the Nominations and Elections committee. She is committed to advancing the art and science of simulation through research and immersive active learning modalities. Dr. Chidume was the recipient of the 2024 INACSL Academic Excellence and Research Excellence Awards. 

Dr. Eliana Escudero Zúñiga, RN, CNM, MSN, MEd, is an educator, consultant for SIAcademia, Chile and 4DHealth, Spain. She is a member of the International Educational Committee of Garrahan Foundation, Argentina, and a Guest Lecturer, Simulation Center, for Pntifical Catholic University Chile. 

Dr. Escudero obtained her Bachelor's degree of science in nursing-Midwifery and a diploma in Medical Education at the Pontifical Catholic University, Chile. She earned a Master's degree in Education Sciences with a focus on Teaching and Research at Central University Chile. She is a reviewer and member of the INACSL Endorsement Committee, and chairs the INACSL Latin America RIG. 

Dr. Escudero is a member of the WHO Global Patient Safety Network community. She is renowned for her contributions to simulation, having developed the first project in Chile and established simulation across Latin America. She is an author of book chapters, publication, and research projects, and is founder and leader of the Latin American and Chilean Society. 

Dr. Escudero serves as a director on the SSH board of directors. In 2015 she was recognized by INACSL with the Spirit of Simulation Leadership Excellence Award, and was also honored by SSH in 2016 for advancing simulation globally. 

Dr. Susan H. Hébert, PhD, RN, CHSE, is the Assistant Dean of Simulation at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville College of Nursing. As the Assistant Dean, she oversees all simulation active learning activities and research integrating simulation, the program’s strategic plan, fiscal management, and faculty and staff professional development.

Dr. Hébert earned her BSN from Illinois Wesleyan University, a MS in Medical Simulation from Drexel School of Medicine, and a Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Hébert and colleagues published two sentinel manuscripts in nursing simulation titled Simulation in Advanced Practice Nursing Programs: A North American Survey (2019) and Simulation as a Disruptive Innovation in Advanced Practice Nursing Programs: A Report from a Qualitative Examination (2021). She has presented over 100 presentations at regional, national, and international simulation conferences on professional development in simulation, competency-based simulation initiatives, and community-based simulation research.

In addition to INACSL, Dr. Hébert is a member of the Society of Simulation in Healthcare, the Tennessee Simulation Alliance, the National League of Nursing Simulation Lead alumni, Sigma, and Phi Kappa Phi. Dr. Hébert also serves on INACSL's Standards Committee, INACSL Research, APRN, Directors SIGs, the Nursing and Directors SIGs, and the External Relations Committee for the Society of Simulation in Healthcare.

Dr. Kelly L. Rossler, PhD, RN, CHSE, CNE, is an Associate Professor at Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing and researcher within the INACSL Endorsed LHSON Simulation program.

Dr. Rossler earned her Bachelor of Science (1992) and Master of Science as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Nursing from Armstrong State College/University (2003) and a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Education from Mercer University (2013). She was an inaugural 2016-2017 INACSL Research Fellow. In 2019, Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University Alumni Association inducted her into the Hall of Honor for Excellence in Nursing Research and received the Dallas Magazine’s 2020 Excellence in Nursing Awards for Nursing Education and Research.

Dr. Rossler and collaborative colleagues have contributed to advancing simulation science by researching immersive virtual reality, simulated gaming, and telehealth. She also collaborates on research related to the capabilities of military service members. Dissemination of scholarship occurs globally at conferences and within peer-reviewed journals. She is a member of multiple professional organizations, including the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and the National League for Nursing. Prior INACSL committee service encompassing Governance (2016-2017), Research (2017), and Standards (2017-2022) prepared her for their current role with the INACSL Board of Directors (2023). She serves on the CHSE Blueprint Review Committee of SSH.

Dr. Frank Guido-Sanz, PhD, APRN, ANP-BC, AGACNP-BC CHSE, FAANP, is the Graduate Simulation Coordinator and tenured Associate Professor at the University of Central Florida College of Nursing. As the Graduate Simulation Coordinator, he works with graduate faculty to incorporate standards of best practices in simulation into their courses, help design, implement, and evaluate simulation-based experiences and education, and facilitate student learning in a safe environment.He earned his Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing from Barry University and Master of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from Florida International University. He has a Post-Master Certificate in Nursing Education and an International Family Focused Healthcare Certificate.

Dr. Guido-Sanz has been a critical care nurse for over 25 years with over 18 years of experience as a practicing acute care nurse practitioner.His area of research is on simulation, innovation, and technology. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, presented at national and international conferences, developed several patents, and received awards recognizing the significance and high quality of his work.He is a member of Sigma Honor Society of Nursing, Society for Simulation in Healthcare, National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the National League for Nursing.

Dr. Peggy P. Hill, PhD, RN, CHSE, researches and designs simulation-based education (SBE) to facilitate safe management of challenging healthcare situations. She has served as a CHSE exam evaluator with the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (2024) and on the Research Committee and Regulatory subcommittee for the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL).

Dr. Hill serves as a reviewer for Clinical Simulation in Nursing, BMC, and Simulation & Gaming journals. Her publications include a focus on simulation, ranging in topics from interruption management skills to content expertise, the use of holograms for interprofessional learning, and virtual simulation. Dr. Hill has presented her research nationally and internationally. Dr. Hill has served as chair for her university simulation committee and been instrumental in obtaining SSH accreditation and INACSL endorsement for her simulation center.

Dr. Hill has worked on the Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Governance Committee and Succession Planning committee (chair) at her local chapter. She has been involved in updating curriculum and revising strategic plans, policies, and procedures at the college level and with STTI. Dr. Hill received the 2021 NLN/SNRS Doctoral Research Award for her dissertation on the use of Simulation-Based Education to teach interruption management.

Emily Jerge RN, MS, CHSE, CMSRN is a Clinical Nurse Educator with the Catholic Health System. Recently recruited to this role, Emily oversees simulation development throughout the organization, and is working towards creating an in-situ simulation curriculum. Emily Jerge is an innovative educator and simulationist, and works towards creating an inclusive environment for all.

Emily is a current student of the PhD program of MGH Institute of Health Professions on the simulation track. She completed her Master’s Degree in 2013, and BSN in 2006. As Director of Nursing Simulation and Clinical Practice Center of D’Youville University, Emily created curriculum and designed their Simulation Space. Emily was named one of Buffalo’s 40 Under 40 in 2023, and Western New York’s Nurse of Distinction in Education in 2021. She was selected as a member of the 2022 NLN Simulation Leadership Cohort and remains an active member of NLN. Emily recently consulted on the 4th Edition of Creative Strategies for the Nurse Educator by Dr. Judith Herrman.

Emily Jerge is currently president-elect of the Professional Nurses Association of Western New York (PNAWNY), and has served as chair of several committees including the PNAWNY Nominations Committee, Middle States Standard VI Steering Committee, and the Nursing Student Conduct Committee of D’Youville University. Emily was asked to serve as chair of the Catholic Health Service Ministry Board prior to joining the company full time in March 2024.

Katherine “Kat” A. Kreis, MSN, RN, CHSE, is a nurse educator and simulation faculty member at the University of Texas at Arlington’s College of Nursing and Health Innovation (UTA CONHI). After relocating post-Hurricane Katrina and gaining over 20 years of experience in nursing care and leadership, she joined UTA in 2017 as a clinical educator and trained as a simulation facilitator. In 2021, she joined the CONHI Smart Hospital team and earned her Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) certification. Her work focuses on improving patient safety through the revision of a medication administration competency instrument for simulation research.

Ms. Kreis’s contributions have been recognized through scholarships from NLN and Sigma and grants from various organizations. She frequently presents at conferences, including IMSH23, Nursing Informatics 2024, and CANS 2024; she will also be presenting at AACN Transform 2024 and IMSH25.

Ms. Kreis is the incoming President-Elect for the Delta Theta Chapter 102 of Sigma and helped establish the first Sigma Region 6 Research Symposium. She is also a member of Phi Kappa Phi, ASPE, SSH, CANS, and INACSL, where she was honored with the Anthony Battaglia Scholarship in 2022. Her mission is to advance healthcare simulation in nursing education to improve medication safety globally.

Open Positions

President Elect – one (1) vacancy

The President-Elect is an officer of the Board of Directors. The President-Elect serves on standing or special committees and takes on special assignments as determined by the President and Board of Directors. The President-Elect performs the duties of the President during the President’s absence and accedes to the role of President after serving a one (1) year term.

Treasurer-Secretary – one (1) vacancy

The Treasurer-Secretary is an officer of the Board of Directors. The Treasurer-Secretary oversees the work of the Financial Oversight Committee, including creating an annual budget, monitoring monthly financials, and acting as fiscal advisor to the Board of Directors. The Treasurer-Secretary is responsible for seeing that all income and expenditures of the Association are recorded and paid as approved by the Board of Directors through ordinary budgeting processes. The Treasurer-Secretary ensures Board meeting minutes are properly reflected. 

Board of Directors – two (2) vacancies

The Board of Directors is the principal governing body of INACSL. The Board of Directors provides mission-based leadership and vision, strategic governance, and succession planning.

Directors ensure implementation of strategic initiatives and responsibilities as determined by consensus of the Board of Directors. Directors act as Board Liaisons to Committees, overseeing Committee Chairs within their responsibility to ensure the work of each committee is carried out and identifying committee recommendations that should be presented to the Board of Directors. Each Director provides leadership for succession planning for their position, as well as the position of the Committee Chairs for which they are responsible.

Directors serve a term of two (2) years: 2025-2027.

Nominations & Elections Committee – two (2) vacancies

The Nominations and Elections Committee is responsible for annually soliciting names of members who are interested in running for any office through a virtual nomination process and preparing a slate of candidates for each elective office. Members of this committee serve a term of two (2) years.
