Percentage of Clinical Replacement Hours:  

Nursing Education Programs that have a national nursing accreditation: Clinical simulation shall not exceed 50% of clinical clock hours for each clinical course in the four (4) recognized specialty area of pediatrics, obstetrics, psychiatric and medical surgical nursing.”

“Nursing Education Programs that are seeking national nursing accreditation: Clinical Simulation component shall not exceed 25% of the clinical hours for each clinical course.”

Ratio of Simulation to Clinical Hours:

For Nursing Educational Programs that have national accreditation and that meet the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) standards, each Clinical Simulation clock hour may be considered the equivalent to up to two clock hours of clinical.

For Nursing Education Programs that are seeking national nursing accreditation and that meet INACSL standards, each Clinical Simulation clock hour is equivalent to one clock hour of clinical

Definition of Simulation:  "A care setting utilizing human simulation experience to create realistic, life-like scenarios where students engage in the practice of nursing skills and theory for the purpose of teaching and evaluating students. All simulation experiences shall be under the direction of licensed nursing Faculty qualified to oversee and evaluate the outcomes of the simulation experience for the student. The Faculty qualifications shall be documented in a manner approved by the Board.”

Simulation Educator Requirements:  Faculty instructors in the CSE environment shall have documented simulation training and or mentorship from: (1) qualified vendor or training, (2) formal education in an approved education program, and/or other qualified training program. For detailed guidelines and criteria refer to the most current INACSL Standard V.
