Year of Regulation: Regulations in Development

Percentage of Clinical Replacement Hours: ND Administrative Code does not prescribe the number of didactic or clinical hours for nursing education programs. Rather, the rules address the areas of promotion, prevention, restoration, and maintenance of health that must be included in didactic and clinical experiences for clients across the lifespan in "a variety of clinical settings.

Ratio of Simulation to Clinical Hours: Not defined

Definition of Simulation: To date, the NDBON has not sought to add simulation specific criteria to the nursing education rules (NDAC), nor are there any immediate plans to do so. Nurse educators in the state are referred to the NCSBN Simulation Guidelines for Prelicensure Nursing programs which are founded on robust research conducted in 2014, with a follow-up study on use conducted in 2017. Nurse educators in the state are encouraged to utilize professional nursing education organizations/associations guidance such as the NLN, INACSL, AACN, and SSH when incorporating simulation into the curriculum. Surveyors for the NDBON utilize the same resources when reviewing nursing education programs as part of the survey process.

Simulation Educator Requirements: If simulation is being utilized within the curriculum of a prelicensure nursing program, the NDBON requires evidence of adequate dedicated staff, faculty, and resources to maintain on an ongoing basis.
