Definition of Simulation: Medium-fidelity simulation refers to patient-care scenarios that use a full body simulator with installed human qualities such as breath sounds, without accompanying chest rise or other affective and psychomotor responses (paraphrased from a chapter by D. Spunt in P. Jeffries 2007, Simulation in Nursing Education). ** High fidelity simulation “refers to structured student learning experiences with the use of a technologically advanced computerized mannequin, the Human Patient Simulator (HPS). HPS is anatomically precise and reproduces physiologic responses” (as defined by the NCSBN Research Brief, Vol. 40, June 2009).
